VISION FOR OAKLAND
Renew - Reclaim - Rebuild

Public Safety
People deserve to feel safe in their homes, communities, and throughout Oakland. By working in trust and full collaboration with the Oakland Police Department, Oakland Fire Department, and the District Attorney’s Office, I will:
-
Get tougher on crime in a responsible and humane manner.
-
Increase our police force and reduce excessive overtime.
-
Keep fire stations and fire engines open, avoiding unnecessary closures.
-
Further activate and increase our Neighborhood Community Policing and Neighborhood Watch programs.
-
Continue to fund and build upon proven violence interruption programs such as Ceasefire and Violence Prevention Initiatives. Ceasefire (developed in Oakland by Regan Harman) has been utilized in cities across America, to drastically reduce violence, murders and crimes.

Fiscal Responsibility
Oakland’s budget crisis requires discipline, accountability, and strong oversight. Together with the City Auditor and Finance Department, I will:
-
Make tough budget decisions, merging departments to conserve resources, and improve efficiency of spending.
-
Attract business and property development to build tax revenues.
-
Cut expenditures that aren’t serving Oakland.
-
Apply for grants and aid at all levels of government to support General Purpose, Emergency, Transportation, Public Health & Social Services.

Economic Revitalization
Accelerating the growth of all business districts and travel corridors will make the city an attractive destination for businesses and create
opportunity for all. By working with creatives and business leaders, I will:
-
Support local businesses by providing resources, initiatives, and services that they currently pay taxes for.
-
Access funding for growth and development opportunities.
-
Showcase culture, arts, and food industries.
-
Work with Travel Oakland to change the narrative and world views of our city, rebranding and amplifying Oakland as a top travel destination.
-
Increase our presence and vitality to film makers worldwide, highlighting our diversity and showcasing the impact of our Changemakers and Trailblazers.

Affordable Housing
Having a place to call our own is a vital part of individual and community success. By working responsibly with developers, I will:
-
Build more affordable and market rate housing.
-
Access emergency funding streams via County, State, and Federal Resources.
-
Attract large businesses with initiatives to fill vacant buildings and properties (after Oakland has a continuous decrease in crimes and cleaning of streets).
